A Folk Art Masterpiece

American, last quarter 19th c.
An extraordinary hooked carpet that was obviously done as a work of love, and in its scale, color, and imaginative detail was intended to totally transform a room, not merely brighten it! Resplendent withpairs of roosters and peacocks, small birds and blue cats, and a lone white horse under a heart embellished vase of flowers, all set forth on an unusually large “canvas”, it is a unique artistic statement that represents American folk art at its best.
Wool on burlap.
