Very Fine and Rare Courting Mirror
America, prob. CT, and northern Europe, 2nd half 18th c.
An unusually sophisticated courting mirror with carved broken-arch pediment and scalloped bottom surrounding reverse-painted glass. The elaborate cherry carved frame appears to have been made here to encase a simple European courting mirror.
In excellent condition, missing two tiny pieces of glass from interior eglomise frame.

A fine pair of pastels on paper of Peter and Catherine Post Ritter, attrib. to Gerrit Schipper, c.1802-07. Born in Amsterdam in 1775, Schipper worked in New York, Charleston, Savannah, and Massachusetts from 1802 until 1807.

A fine brass and copper tobacco box made for the German market. The box commemorates the German victory over the French in the Battle of Krefeld in 1758 under Ferdinand, Duke of Brunswick. On the lid, the repousse decoration features portraits of Frederick the Great and Prince Henry.
